Haven’t heard of this dance style Alkayida? Don’t be sad, there are many in your shoes. Don’t be scared either. Since it sounds like the name of dreaded terrorist group Al – Qaeda.
This dance style originated from Ghana and has been around since 2013. According to Wikipedia, “Alkayida is an Ashanti dance which from Ghana which involves the swaying of the body along with hand and shoulder movements in a certain pattern. According to hip life artist Guru who had a key role in popularizing the dance, the name of the dance should be written as “Akayida”.Though it hasn’t fully caught on in Nigeria, Kcee even released a song featuring Timaya with the same title. Still most Nigerians didn’t take note until this year when Ghanaian musician Eugy and his Nigerian counterpart Mr. Eazi released their hit track Dance For Me. It currently has over 7.7 million views on YouTube.
